sampat pal devi : Gulabi gang Leader
Sampat Pal, who heads a group of women vigilantes called Gulabi Gang in the Banda district of Uttar Pradesh, is part of this season’s Bigg Boss. Even before the show has gone on air, the activist, who has been fighting domestic abuse, decided to attract a fair bit of controversy. She has lashed out at Madhuri Dixit Nene, who is set to play her character in a forthcoming film.

“Madhuri is doing it wrong. She should have taken permission from me before she decided to do the film,” says Pal, on whom the film Gulab Gang is based. Produced by Anubhav Sinha and directed by Soumik Sen, the film is set to go on the floors this month.

The 62-year-old activist further added that Madhuri will not be able to portray the character correctly as neither she nor the makers have any background knowledge. “Madhuri can’t do justice to the role. None of them (from the film’s team) have ever called me. Madhuri should have come to my home, stayed with me and met my cadres. She doesn’t know how I work. They can’t cash in on our struggles. If my name comes in the film, I will not let them get away easily,” she says.

Meanwhile, Pal says she likes Bigg Boss host Salman Khan’s earlier films. “I like Hum Aapke Hain Koun…! (1994) a lot. He looked fabulous in his ’20s.” She adds, “I’ll try to change Salman. I’ll try to persuade him to make films not just for entertainment, but do films with stronger women rolee.”

The Gulabi gang (from Hindi gulabi, "Rose", transln. " gang") is a group of women vigilantes and activists originally from Chitrakoot in Bundelkhand district, Uttar Pradesh, India,[1] but reported to be active across North India as of 2010.
The gang was founded in 2006 by Sampat Pal Devi, a mother of five and former government health worker (and a former child bride), as a response to widespread domestic abuse and other violence against women.[3] Gulabis visit abusive husbands and beat them up with laathis (bamboo sticks) unless they stop abusing their wives.[1] In 2008, they stormed an electricity office in Banda district and forced officials to turn back the power they had cut in order to extract bribes.[4] They have also stopped child marriages and protested dowry and female illiteracy.[2]
The group, which the Indian media portray positively, was reported to have 20,000 members as of 2008, as well as a chapter in Paris, France.[1]

Inspiration to movies

A movie called "Pink Saris" has been made about them, directed by Kim Longinotto and premiering at the Toronto Film Festival in 2010.[5] A documentary called "Gulabi Gang", directed by Nishtha Jain, premiered at the Norwegian Short Film Festival in 2012, where it was awarded the prize for best Norwegian documentary. A movie by the name of Gulab Gang is also in the process of being made, starring Madhuri Dixit in the leading role. Producer Anubhav Sinha has plans to get it released onInternational Women's Day, March 8, 2013.
