Varun Agarwal is a first-generation entrepreneur, film maker and author. Born on December 6, 1986, in India, he did his schooling from Bishop Cotton Boys' School bangalore.[1] He co-founded Alma Mater and two other companies - Reticular and Last Minute Films. He is also the author of a national bestselling book How I Braved Anu Aunty and Co-Founded A Million Dollar Company.[1] His debut book became a national bestseller within a month of its release and is already in its third print. [2] 


Film-maker

During his engineering college days in Bangalore, he started film-making and founded 'Last Minute Films' at the age of 19. After finishing his graduation he briefly worked as a director for Phat Phish Films and at the young age of 21 he directed Bollywood Superstars Priety Zinta and AR Rahman in music videos.[1] Varun's video channel onYouTube has over 800,000 views.[3]

Entrepreneur

At 22, he co-founded his second business venture, Alma Mater, with his friend Rohan Malhotra. Alma Mater has successfully partnered with educational institutions across India in being able to make and supply customized apparel to the students and alumni. It is now India's largest company for providing customized merchandise to students of schools and colleges.[4] Besides these two companies he also co-founded Reticular. Varun has been featured on the cover of India Today as well as on the CNBC Young Turks Show.[4]

Author

In June 2012 his debut book, How I Braved Anu Aunty and Co-Founded A Million Dollar Company, chronicling his journey as an entrepreneur was published by Rupa publishers. It is a nation-wide best-seller having sold 20,000 copies within a month of its release.[2] This book serves as an inspiration to several young Indians who wish to take the entrepreneurial route and has hence achieved a cult status already. Agarwal’s book is interesting as his is a story of an idea that took off. [1]
